Sunday
worship is central to life at All Saints’. Each week, our parishioners
are active as Altar Guild members, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Lay
Readers, lectors, choir members, acolytes, ushers and greeters.
While the 10:30 Sunday service is going on, still more
parishioners are active as Sunday school teachers and nursery care
providers. All are welcome to receive communion at the Lord’s Table.
All Saints Church holds worship services every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and
10:30 a.m. from September until mid-June. The 8:00 a.m. is a said service
of Holy Eucharist (Rite II). The 10:30 is a Rite II celebration of
Holy Eucharist with choir and music. During the summer, one worship
service is held at 9:15 a.m., Rite II with music but no choir.
Each
Sunday after the 10:30 service (9:15 service in the summer), our
congregation gathers in the Parish Hall for Coffee Hour. It is a family event,
like a large and lively family dinner time: all generations
attend; we meet and chat for a while, catching up on each other’s
news, sharing the joys and challenges of the week over coffee or hot
chocolate. As we nibble on crumb cake or goldfish crackers, we extend the
blessings of the Eucharist, pausing in our busy lives to
enjoy each other’s company and fellowship.
All Saints’ offers special services throughout the year. We celebrate
Christmas with two services on Christmas Eve: the children’s Christmas
pageant and a choral Eucharist. One service is offered on Christmas
Day. The Palm Sunday service at 10:30 begins with a procession around
the city block led by a crucifer and bagpiper. Holy Week services include
Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Day. We celebrate the feast day of
St. Francis by inviting All Saints’ parishioners, friends, neighbors,
and their pets to be blessed at the 10:30 service.
One of our favorite special services is “Family Service”
Sundays where the children participate in our worship during the entire service.
These services consist of a children’s sermon or a skit
performed by the children. We use an alternative Eucharistic Prayer at
Family Services. The All Saints Childrens Choir will often sing and
play instruments.
